UN urged to intervene in Balochistan to end Baloch genocide

Baloch Human Rights Organisation (BHRO) on Sunday organised a protest rally against an ongoing military operation against Baloch people in Mashkay region and human right violations by Pakistani security forces in different parts of Balochistan. The rally set off from Arts Council and staged a demo outside Karachi Press Club. A large number of Baloch women and children participated in the rally and demo to express their anger against military offensives in Mashkay. They were carrying placards inscribed with writings calling for end to the operation against innocent Baloch people in Turbat, Mashkay and other areas of Balochistan. The protesters said that Pakistan security forces initiated a massive military operation in Mashkay and its surroundings on 25 December. They alleged that military used gunship Helicopters during the operation due to which several houses were heavily damaged. The leaders of BHRO said Pakistani forces abducted many innocent people and several have been killed because of the indiscriminate bombardment on their houses. They said the deceased included infants and elderly people. Some of the victims of bombardment have been named as: Mir Sahoo, Khoda Bux, Jameel, Ali Jan, Khair Bibi, Lala Bibi, Nazal, Halima, Gajn Khatoon, Sad Gajn, Mahnaz, Gull Bibi, Sara Ali and Labo. “Arz Mohammad Baloch was arrested and killed under-custody on the first day of bombardment,” BHRO leaders said. The demonstrators also claimed that at least 100 houses were set afire by the Pakistani security forces. The people of these houses were forced to take shelter in Mosques, Schools and some live under open sky in these harsh conditions, the protesters said. They also strongly criticised the media for its silence on state atrocities and alleged the media of being silent partners of state in committing Baloch genocide. The BHRO has appealed to human rights organisations and the United Nations to intervene, and take action against Pakistan army’s barbarism in Balochistan. “If the United Nations could take action in other parts of the world, then why it could not do the same in Balochistan,” BHRO leaders said. They urged the International Media to visit Mashkay and Balochistan to witnesses and expose the ongoing human rights violations against Baloch people. They appeal the International Community to review their policies of supporting Pakistan and condition any support to improvement of human rights situations. They said the UN, EU and civilised countries of the world must come to the aid of Baloch nation and fulfil their responsibilities and help the Baloch people affected by military operation.
