Historic long march of VBMP and helpless HR organisations

A 756 km long march walking 29-30 km a day, with eight women and a 10 year old child Ali Haider Baloch, whose father Ramzan Baloch was abducted by Pakistani security forces, pushing a hand-trolley throughout the journey. The trolley, filled with sprays and banners for peace full protest passed through mountains of Balochistan where death squad and blood thirsty beasts of Pakistani Army put their all efforts to stop them. They succeeded in braving, with blistered feet, the nasty weather and the hired thugs of state army and intelligence agencies. These committed people instead of losing their ambition continued walking and become victorious in reaching their desired destination, Karachi.

Throughout their march they were received and sympathised by Baloch population which was apparently the only reward and encouragement that “mama” and his team received. Hence, after 27 days the convoy reached at Karachi press club, their designed target where the march turned into a rally of thousands and state-riddled political worker of “Jeay Sindh Mutaheda Qaumi Mahaz” received them with enthusiasm. The floor of Press Club was filled with roses and people outside the Press Club were impatient to see a glimpse the marchers.

The victimised families of Baloch missing person under the organisation of ‘Voice for Baloch Missing Persons’ are continuing their symbolic protest camp before Karachi Press Club. It is a shame that after such a remarkable march which is considered to be the longest one in South Asia, the international media, civil society and humanitarian organisations remained silent and took no action against Pakistan’s atrocities towards Baloch Nation. Despite the presence of British Prime Minister David Cameron, participants from Mauritius and Indian premier in South Asia, who boycotted the commonwealth of Independents states conference 2013 held in Sri Lanka due to human rights violation against Tamil population by the state. They were all reckless regarding such a great rally which would be a new voice for missing persons in Balochistan, but their silence put question mark to their vigilance.

The participants of this rally also included Farzana Majid (whose brother Zakir Majid Baloch was abducted in presence of eye-witnesses half decade ago), Sammi Baloch daughter of Doctor Din Muhammad (who is also a victim of state’s abductions in Balochistan) reiterated in their march that the international community and humanitarian organization must raise their voices against slow genocide of Baloch nation, but so far the world remained silent over this tragedy and international community ignored an issue which needs urgent international attention and even intervention.

Where is the United Nations today whose charters ‘guarantees’ political freedom to everyone but I must say UN is going to be on the same pattern as league of nations were after World War one. Moreover, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Red Cross and regional organisations are either not acting in accordance with human rights laws of globalised world or they have become obsolete organisations because these proclaimer of ‘Human Rights’ have also ignored the longest democratic and peaceful long march in the history of South Asia. Their meagre approach to human rights violations in Balochistan puts several questions marks to their credibility.

On 26-11-2013 a Baloch mother has received the mutilated dead body of her 15 year-old son named Muslim Baloch in district Punjgoor Balochistan. He was a student of 9th class, but the ruthless agencies of Pakistan coupled with Frontier Corps (FC) abducted him ten days ago killed him under-custody and dumped his body. His only crime was that he was a member of a Baloch Student Organisation and he was born as a Baloch which cost him his life. There were obvious marks inhuman torture including drilling and several bullet wounds on his body.

If the civilised world and international human rights organisations behave like this then the question arises that who will guarantee the peoples’ right to life and liberty? If tyrant states reject these international organisations where will this lead the world to? The soft behaviour of UN towards savage states, which also happens to members of UN, may lead the world once again to the age where once cruelty, bloodshed and tyranny ruled the entire globe for decades. It is for the best interest of international organisations and the wider world to take urgent action, react promptly and strictly against human rights violations of Baloch and other oppressed nations.
