An Open Letter to Mr. Ban ki Moon the Secretary-General of the United Nations

Subject: UN delegation’s visit to Pakistan and BalochistanYour Excellency,We would like to appreciate UN’s decision for sending a fact-finding mission to investigate the human rights violations in Balochistan. We welcome the team to observe Pakistan’s crimes against humanity. The military operations are at full swing all across Balochistan. More than 14,000 Baloch political activists have been abducted and held in unspecified locations incommunicado. Over 500 of them have been killed in custody and their bodies were dumped in deserted areas or on the roadsides. Hundreds of thousands of internally displaced Baloch are living in miserable conditions in Sindh, Punjab and neighbouring Afghanistan. Pakistan has barred the international humanitarian organisations to provide them with any kind of assistance.Balochistan is also a no go area for international and local media. 22 local journalists have been abducted, tortured and murdered just because of doing their job. The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) has utilized all the peaceful means for the safe recovery of missing Baloch. Members of VBMP have also been abducted and killed and constantly being threatened by the military apparatus. There is no coverage of these atrocities by the embedded mainstream Pakistani media. The role of Pakistani Supreme Court is also dubious. However, it publicly admitted that the security forces are ignoring court’s orders. At present the FC (Frontier Constabulary) has been granted with police powers as well. Now, the only hope for Baloch people is UN to pressurize Pakistan for the safe recovery of their loved ones and to end human rights abuses in Balochistan. Moreover, we urge the UN’s fact-finding mission to consult with the genuine stake holders.Hence, the Baloch Social Media Activists Association brings the concerns of the Baloch people and the families of enforced-disappeared Baloch as following:1. We appeal to the UN delegation to visit inner Balochistan and meet the family members of abducted Political activists and those who have been extra-judicially killed by Pakistani security agencies.2. We appeal to the delegation to urge the government of Pakistan to provide a list of Baloch activists that have been trialled or jailed. Pakistani state often calls the Baloch miscreants but to this day not a single Baloch have been put on trial and found guilty of any offense.3. Pakistan’s judiciary is under the influence of army and it failed to give justice to Baloch people. Baloch have no faith on any institutions of Pakistan.4. We appeal the UN team to inquire from Pakistani judiciary that why have they failed to deliver justice to Baloch general public.5. We appeal the UN to urged Pakistan to treat Baloch detainees currently held by Pakistani security forces as prisoners of war in accordance with UN charter and International Laws.6. We appeal the UN to recognise Balochistan as an occupied territory and pressurise Pakistan to give a time frame of withdrawal and peaceful transition of power to Baloch forces.Respectfully,Baloch Social Media Activists’ Association (BSMAA)On behalf of the oppressed Baloch nation
