IVBMP appeals the UN WGEID to make contact with victims’ families

The International Voice for Baloch Missing Persons have send the following letter to United Nations Secrtary General Mr. Ban ki Moon and head of Working Group on Enforced Disappearances Mr. Olivier de Frouville urging them to make direct contacts with Baloch families of extra-judicially killed and enforced-disappeared activists. September 8, 2012United Nations Office at GenevaAriana1202 Geneva,SwitzerlandDear Sir, The International Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (IVBMP), was created to advocate on behalf of the many Baloch families who have suffered the tragic loss of their sons and daughters, their fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, brothers and sisters, as a result of systematic displacement, enforced disappearance, imprisonment, torture and extra judicial killing brutally engineered by members of the Pakistani security forces and intelligence agencies. Since 2005, approximately 14,000 Baloch have been made victims of enforced-disappearances, and over 400 from among the missing have been killed while in custody, their bodies dumped in deserted areas across Balochistan. The victims’ body bore signs of extreme torture including drilling, cigarette burns and electric shocks. The Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Quetta Police Chief and serving ministers also hold the Frontier Corps and intelligence agencies of Pakistan responsible for these human rights violations. We are extremely grateful for the imminent arrival of the UN delegation in Pakistan and Balochistan, as we have fervently sought the international community’s help in conducting further investigation into the rampant human rights abuses occurring in Balochistan and elsewhere. The IVBMP holds fast to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which calls for “the right to life, liberty and security of person,” and its mission is to hold those who have grossly violated Baloch human rights accountable. The IVBMP also asserts that the abductions and “kill and dump” atrocities have been committed by the Pakistani state in order to silence those non-combatant men and women (and their children), who serve in positions of leadership, e.g., political activists, journalists, intellectuals, etc., fearlessly declaring their undying hope of a self-governing, secular Balochistan. We are very pleased that your delegation will be meeting with the Prime Minister, Interior Minister, Minister for Religious Affairs, Attorney General and other provincial officials, however please be advised that the victims’ families despair of ever seeing their demands for justice met by Pakistani state institutions, including its judicial system. For this very reason, we urge the UN delegation to consult directly with the leadership of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons in Balochistan, who is eager to assist in this process, and to visit its hunger strike protest camp, located outside the Quetta Press Club. The IVBMP also urgently pleads with you to make direct contact with the victims’ families living in the major cities noted on your itinerary, and in the interior of Balochistan, in order to gain the most comprehensive information available regarding the nature of this disturbing crisis, and the pervasive discrimination that occurs in all spheres of Baloch society. Thank you for your dedicated service to the Baloch.
